they now play together. can now stream movies and tv shows to the TV via the Wii console.
awesome.
setup is easy - insert the DVD from Netflix in the Wii console and then type the code you see in the TV screen in the Netflix page. works perfectly, faster than streaming to my PC.
the only shortcoming is that the Netflix DVD has to be in the Wii console everytime you want to stream - still, not bad for a freebie.
I'm streaming "The IT Crowd", a Britcom. w00t!

Brandi Carlile covers Jeff Buckley's cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah"
for my money, she's better than Jeff - the version from her visit to KCRW is devastating.
many thanks to my friend T. for introducing me to Brandi via her powerful The Story

updated 20100311 @1144: not my fault if you cry, but here is a clip of Roger Ebert using for the first time the voice that a software company built from hours of his tapes.
a must-read.

I believe that if, at the end of it all, according to our abilities,
we have done something to make others a little happier, and something
to make ourselves a little happier, that is about the best we can do.
To make others less happy is a crime. To make ourselves unhappy is
where all crime starts. We must try to contribute joy to the world.
That is true no matter what our problems, our health, our
circumstances. We must try. I didn't always know this, and am happy I
lived long enough to find it out.

March 8th is International Women's Day - a day to look back, to look forward, to plan, to reflect. to think about an old and prevalent issue that continually develops into worse forms. Violence Against Women often takes place in the intimacy of the home, yet it is a major public health, political and human rights problem through the world. According to the World Health Organization,
"one of the most common forms of VAW is that performed by a husband or
male partner.” This type of violence is frequently invisible since it
happens behind closed doors. Moreover, legal systems and cultural norms
often do not treat it as a crime, but rather as a "private" family
matter or a normal part of life.
